W EEKLY EDITION AUGUST 29, 2018 C ONTINUED ON PAGE 12 P AGE 4 So is it more business, less business, or just business as usual? The differences can really pertain to whether the company has a specific focus, like construction sites versus events, or a more diversified business model. It's a busy time of year for most in the Industry – one Member reports being "slammed " for the next three months -- but business doesn't necessarily heat up during the Labor Day weekend. It's the weather that does; app arently by too much. "With the heat in Houston, it's too hot for anyone to throw a party," says Jason Odom of Texas Outhouse. "We can't do anything." Odom says his company has about 150 units out right now, but that will change in about a month. "We're al l good right now, but we'll be busy in 30 days with a lot of events, when it gets cool. But now it's just business as usual." Not so in Arkansas, where the National Championship Chuckwagon Races are being held in Clinton. "This is definitely a labor weeke nd for us, it's the biggest festival for us," says Scott Thone of Arkansas Portable Toilets, a division of FusionSite Services. "The people that go, this is like their Super Bowl." Thone says the event really kicks off on the Thursday before Labor Day, an d that there's "a big camping element around this," meaning that folks linger well through Sunday. The event web site predicts 20,000 people will attend the event. There wi ll also be a multitude of music al acts, from Terri Clark to the Gatlin Brothers. Th one guesses tha t his company will have about 22 0 to 230 toilets at the event, in addition to the 1,700 units Arkansas Portable Toilets has out on a daily basis. "It's a big project this year," Thone says. "There's a lot of backdoor barbeques and stuff lik e that." Thone also says that his business has been up generally, because there's a construction boom in central Arkansas, saying it's "the largest segment of my business, my bread and butter." But not everyone will be a - hootin' and a - hollerin' like they will be in Arkansas. Some companies don't see as much of an uptick on Labor Day as they do on other summertime national holidays.
