Question of the Week: What PSAI Does – and Doesn't Do – with
Member Information
By Karleen Kos, PSAI Executive Director
Each week the PSAI office fields dozens of
questions from Members and the general public.
We occasionally publish the answers in Association
Insight .
Question of the Week: I got a suspicious -
looking bla st email from a company selling
portable sanitation equipment. Apparently, so did
a lot of PSAI Members. Did this list come from the
PSAI? Does PSAI sell my information?
Karleen's reply: I'm sure seeing a blast email
that was obviously sent to hundreds of people
caused you to raise your eyebrows. I admit that
mine went up. Nowadays you don't see this sort of
thing very often.
The fact that most of the email we all receive has
been sent to many hundreds or thousands of recipients is usually invisible to u s. Seeing the names of all the other people who
also received that blast is a little jarring – but it is not at all unusual that we would receive the same email communication as
other people in the same line of business.
The company that sent the email i s a PSAI
international supplier Member. Strictly speaking,
Members emailing other Members - however it is done
- is not a violation of PSAI policy.
As you know, most suppliers highly value the access to
potential customers they get from PSAI membership .
Most operators also appreciate the ability to contact
other operators who may be able to help them with
business challenges.
This cross - communication between members, whether
for selling or consultative purposes, is one of the things
Members tell us th ey value most highly in our annual
survey.
