Industry . PSAI Letter to Vice results in a new Outlook on Portable
Restrooms… continued

The PSAI is in the initial stages of a long - term strategy aimed at doing just that. Our plan
takes a serious look at what industry transformation will require. Specifically, here are some
things we must consider as we develop and begin implementin g a comprehensive plan:
• We need to face facts. In order to gain ground, we need to do more than simply
provide positive messages and cheerlead for portable restrooms. We also need a
strategy for addressing the things people perceive and believe that are n egative
about portable sanitation.
For example, we know that people are avoidant of open/drop tanks for many
reasons. We also know that parts of the world outside North America are moving
away from using/allowing them. This does not mean that the PSAI sho uld work
toward eliminating open/drop
tanks in portable sanitation – nor
she would try to persuade
decision - makers that drop tanks
are appropriate in every setting.
Today's attitudes toward portable
restrooms provide an opportunity
to educate stakeholders about the
options available. In general, the
public desires closed systems.
Time will tell if they are also
willing to pay a premium to have
them – or whether manufacturers
will develop new models that
address some of the shortcomings
of existing offering s with closed
